All footwear that is received through our sneaker recycling program is processed at our facility in Miami, Florida. Once delivered, bags are individually opened and carefully sorted by our professionally trained staff to determine quantity, quality, style, and brand. Our sort team processes one (1) bag at a time and touches every single shoe inputting the quantity, quality, style, and brand data through EDI (electronic data input) into our CRM system. All the data associated with each bag is attributed to the partner’s unique account in our CRM. Currently, 90% of all footwear received is reusable and resaleable while 10% is considered unusable and recyclable. Below is a brief overview of the diverse range of footwear that we receive through our sneaker recycling program:
– 10% of footwear is considered high-quality branded athletics that are separated for sanitization, restoration & cleaning and then resold to the eco and budget-friendly thrift community, saving consumers up to 75% off retail prices and reducing the need to manufacture new sneakers by 60%.
– 80% of footwear is shipped to global wholesale partners throughout emerging markets in Latin America, The Caribbean, and The Middle East. This footwear may not be reusable by U.S. standards but is considered reusable in emerging markets, thereby providing consumers in these markets with access to reusable footwear at affordable prices.
– 10% of footwear is categorized unusable or “recyclable.” Currently, we partner with a multitude of vendors to responsibly recycle this type of footwear. We are constantly examining alternative sustainable solutions including but not limited to grinding sneakers to reuse materials such as rubber, foam and textile, waste to energy programs, upcycling into new, reusable products, and more.
